Connie McGehee

Connie McGehee, 90, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020, at her residence.

Funeral services were Sunday, April 26, with a graveside service at North Union Cemetery.

No public visitation was planned.

Connie is survived by her husband, David McGehee; her daughter, Sandra Frasier; her son, Ron Frasier and his wife, Peggy; her brothers, James Copeland and Henry Copeland, Jr.; her grandchildren, Alison Lester and Brandon Davis; and her great-grandchildren, Joshua Eskew, Noah Davis and Bowen Davis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Myrtle Williams Copeland; brothers, Willie and Wesley; sister, Sara Gray; and by her children’s father, Robert Lee Frasier.

Dr. Marty Myers, DMD

William Martin Myers, II, 65, passed away April 28, 202,0 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, while surrounded by his family. 

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. Rev. Barry Corbett and Rev. Mike Myers will officiate.

He was born in Kosciusko, MS, where he was a lifetime member of the Kosciusko First Baptist Church. After attending Mississippi College, he graduated from University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry in 1981. He began practicing dentistry alongside his father in 1981 and owned both the Kosciusko Dental Clinic and Madden Dental Clinic at the time of his death. He was a member of the Mississippi Dental Association for 39 years and enjoyed traveling to various dental conventions with his family. Marty was a health nut and enjoyed all forms of exercise, especially weightlifting and tennis. He also loved riding motorcycles, spending time by the pool, and being “Pops” to his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Donna Romine Myers of Kosciusko; sons, Dr. Reece Myers and his wife, Jillian, of Kosciusko, Dr. Warner Myers and his wife, Meagan; daughter, Mallory Gnade and her husband, Tyler, of Hattiesburg; three grandchildren, Paxton William, Blair Morgan, and Griffin; brothers, Rev. Mike Myers and his wife, Sarah, of Fort Worth, TX, and Steve Myers and his wife, Melissa, of Kosciusko; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William Martin Myers Sr. and Marianne Holland Myers.

Pallbearers will be Reece Myers, Warner Myers, Holland Myers, Wes Myers, Tyler Gnade, and Steve Romine.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Taylor, Earl Price, and Tim Kyle.

Lynn Alldread

Lynn Alldread, 73, passed away April 22, 2020, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held Saturday, April 25, at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. Rev. Butch Bell officiated.

Lynn was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church. He graduated in 1964 from Kosciusko High School, served in the Mississippi National Guard from 1965-1971. He was a retired computer analyst/programmer following a 45-year career in the public utility industry. He served actively as a freemason at Trinity Lodge #88 of Kosciusko, where he served as master of the lodge in 2011, until bad health prevented him from doing so. He was a member of the Pearl Lodge #23 in Jackson where he was the Knight’s Templar.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Lepard Alldread; two brothers, Raymond Alldread of Conyers, GA, Steve Alldread of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Susan Sanders of Kosciusko, MS; three nephews, Jake McGee of Kosciusko, Josh McGee of Saltillo, MS, and Brian Alldread of Conyers, GA; two nieces, Kimberly Alldread and Emily Peters of Jacksonville, FL; six great-nephews and two great-nieces.  

He was preceded in death by his parents R.E. “Red” Alldread and Emmaline Gant Alldread.

Pallbearers were Jake McGee, Josh McGee, Casey Sanders, James Pettit, Tommy Coots, and Glenn Stevens.

Izella Brewer Morris

Izella Brewer Morris, 100, passed away on Apr. 26, 2020, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. 

She was born on Nov. 23, 1919, in Rogers, Arkansas, to Josephine Moon and George W. Brewer and graduated from Rogers High School.

Izella was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Kosciusko, where she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday school, was involved with the youth group, and was a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union. As the first director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Kosciusko, she served her community in that capacity for several years. Izella also volunteered at the Natchez Trace Information Center, was a member of the Book Lovers Club, and spent many joyful days with her friends.

She was a warm, loving, and generous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always had a jar of her special Ranger cookies waiting on visitors. Izella was a skilled seamstress, an amazing cook and a creative artist who was well known for her beautifully decorated eggshell dioramas. One of her dioramas was even chosen to adorn the White House Christmas tree.

Izella is preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Morris; brothers, Charley G. Brewer and Loy W. Brewer. She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Doug) Westmoreland, Martha (Paul) Schroeder, and Ken (Madeline) Morris; grandchildren, Sonja (Jim) Carlton, Sandy (Tim) Bowles, Scott Westmoreland, Geof (Sue) Schroeder, Nicole (Keith) Lindsley, Davin (Webster) Ford, and Claire (Michael) Boler; and nine great-grandchildren.

Izella lived 100 wonderful years full of life and laughter and was able to celebrate her special birthday this past November with family and friends.

A family graveside burial will take place on Thursday, Apr. 30, 2020, in Kosciusko.

Wilma Dees Bingham

Wilma Dees Bingham, 89, passed away April 29, 2020, at her home. 

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. Rev. Randy Dees will officiate.

She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She was a gardener seven days a week. She was the secretary for Bingham’s Plant Farm. She had a special love for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Howell (Sandy) Bingham; daughters, Peggy (Marvin) Pepper and Linda Hatter; five grandchildren, Clayton, Brad, Tyler, Coley, and David; brothers, Zebbie Dees, Jr. and Leroy Dees; sister, Earline Phillips; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howell Bingham; and parents, Zebbie and Mary Dees.

Hester Delores Goins, 84, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at the Attala Baptist Hospital in Kosciusko, MS.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at Berea Cemetery in McCool, MS. Rev. Tommy Allen and Rev. Tony Black will be officiating.

Mrs. Goins was born on March 19, 1936, in Mobile, AL. Mrs. Goins was a member of Berea Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Ethel Chapter.

She is survived by her son, John (Tece) Goins; brother, Harold Dover Gurley, of Mobile, AL; sisters, Eva Doris Holsenbeck, of Millagevelle, GA, Aquilla Moorer of Semmes, AL, Carolyn Gurley Trehern of Ethel, MS, and Teresa Josie Gipson of Fort Morgan, AL; grandchildren, Madison (Ryan) Goins Taylor, Lainey (Eddie) Goins Plunkett, Hannah Grace Goins, Raegan Goins, and Sarah Beth Goins, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Goins; parents, John Keith Gurley and Ruby Myrtle Horn Gurley; and daughter, Frances Goins.

Pallbearers are Ryan Taylor, Eddie Plunkett, Daniel Armstrong, Jeff Trehern, B.B. Trehern, and Hunter Trehern.

Don Paige Moore

Don Paige Moore passed away on Tuesday, April 21, after a very brief battle with cancer. 

Don was born November 23, 1958, in Kosciusko, MS. He was the third child born to Jerry K. and Mary Nell (O'Briant) Moore. He grew up in the Barnes community in Leake County, MS, and graduated from Carthage High School. He also graduated from Northeast Community College and obtained his BA in Music from the University of Southern Mississippi. Don earned a Master's Degree from Delta State University. He served as band director at Decatur High School and Newton High School.

Don is survived by his mother, Mary Nell Johnson of Kosciusko; brother, Gregg A. (Lita) Moore of Carthage; sister, Terry M. (Doug) Overstreet of Kosciusko; brother, Jimmy H. Pickle (Stephanie) of Carthage. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry K. Moore, and his grandparents, Cecil and Carmen Moore and Clyde and Ella Mae O'Briant.

Don was known for his kindness, sweet spirit and his love of family and friends. He dearly loved his "furbaby" companions, Tanner, Buddy and Beau. Don owned and operated a flower shop in Kosciusko for 12 years where he became life-long friends with many of his customers. Don will be greatly missed by family and a host of friends alike.

A memorial service for Don will be held at a later date and will be announced on Don's Facebook page.

Jerry Lynn Neal

Jerry Lynn Neal, 71, passed away at Select Specialty Hospice on Sunday, May 3, 2020.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. No visitation is scheduled.

Jerry is survived by his sister Ruth Lynch and brother James Neal.

He was a member of County Line Baptist Church and had worked with the Pearl River Water District.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon David and Winnie Buchannan Neal; brother Bennie and sister Mary Elizabeth.

Blanche Abels Burrell

Blanche Abels Burrell, 96, died Thursday at the Baptist Health Center in Kosciusko, MS.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Harrell of Durant; three sons, Jerry W. Burrell, and Jack Robert Burrell, both of Goodman, and Murray E. Burrell of Kosciusko; and one sister, Eva Dickerson of Goodman. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, May 11, graveside at Seneasha Cemetery at 1 p.m. Reverend David Cain will officiate. Her grandsons will serve as the pall bearers.

She was a lifelong resident of Attala County and a member of Seneasha Methodist Church. She was a teacher in Durant, MS, and a member of the Farm Bureau. She was also President of the Mississippi division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy from 1999 to 2000. She was a founding member of the Attala County chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She loved to teach and was dedicated to learning and teaching. Her love and dedication led to the decision for her to attend Mississippi State where she graduated in May of 1976.

Her greatest loves were her family, which consisted of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She loved cooking for them all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal E. Burrell; her son, Hal R. Burrell; and her daughter, Wylodean Burrell Edwards.

Marneice Crowe Moore

Marneice Crowe Moore, 88, of Kosciusko, passed away of natural causes Monday, May 11, 2020, at the Attala County Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Parkway Cemetery.

Mrs. Moore was a 44-year member of the South Huntington Street Church of Christ; she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Michael Moore and wife Kimberly of Cocoa, FL.

Preceding her in death are parents, Benton Willis and Mary Estelle Lawrence Crowe; husband, Jimmie Moore; son, Norris Chase; many brothers and sisters.

Odessa Daniels Pitts, 89, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020, in Ethel, MS.

Louise Orr McGary

Louise Orr McGary, 85, passed away May 11, 2020, at her home. 

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, in Coleman Cemetery in McAdams. Jennifer Shaffer will officiate.

She was a member of McAdams Baptist Church. She worked as a waitress most of her life at Vickers Café, Campbell’s Restaurant, Longhorns, and Lindsey’s Restaurant.  She had an excellent green thumb and enjoyed vegetable gardening and flowers.

Survivors include her sons, John (Justine) McGary of Newport and Norman (Connie) McGary of McAdams; daughter, Laura (Aaron) Jenkins of Sallis; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Orr of Eupora; sisters, Mary Anne Mitchell of Mitherton, PA, Earline Hodge of Eupora, and Lucille Caffey of Grenada.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doris E. McGary; parents, George and Virgie Woods Orr; sisters, Golden Orr and Elle Mae McGary; and brothers, Joe Orr and Luther Orr.

Lester Byron Moore

Lester Byron Moore of Flowood, MS, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2020, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. 

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2020, in Parkway Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Meggs will officiate.  

He was 87 years old and proud of his family. He was a loving husband and could make anybody love him. He loved God and his Bible, which he read daily.

He was proud of his 20-year military career and his second chance to serve others through his U.S. Postal Service employment for 29 years. He was driven in all phases of his life. He was a success in everything he did in life. 

He was born on May 27, 1932 in Philadelphia, MS to the late Emmett Moore and Mary J. Moore.

Lester is survived by his wife, Mildred Louise Moore, of Flowood; son, Donald B. Moore of Flowood; sisters, Dawn Moore of Brandon and Glenda Moore of Shelbyville, KY.

Kenny Wayne Bishop, 35, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020, in Attala County, Mississippi. 

Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the Bishop Family Cemetery in Sallis.

Kenny is survived by his parents, Ronnie and Brenda Keen Bishop; his son, Aden Wes Bishop; and his daughter, Alyn Winter Bishop; their mother, Rachel (Rae Rae); brothers, Jonathan Bishop and Kendal Bishop; and adopted brothers, BJ Bishop and Eric Adams.

He was a former crane technician and owner of Bishop Body Works; he was also a travel ball coach.  Kenny loved go-cart racing and dirt-track racing.

Mrs. Marnece Crowe Moore, 88, of Kosciusko, passed away of natural causes Monday, May 11, 2020, at the Attala County Nursing Home.

Graveside services were Thursday, May 14, at Parkway Cemetery. Mrs. Moore was a 44-year member of the South Huntington Street Church of Christ; she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Michael Moore and wife, Kimberly of Cocoa, FL.

Preceding her in death are parents, Benton Willis and Mary Estelle Lawrence Crowe; husband, Jimmie Moore; son, Norris Chase; many brothers and sisters.

Coy Elmo Thomas

Coy Elmo Thomas, 88, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 in Oxford, MS after a long illness. He was born in Poplar Creek, MS to the late William Odell and Mary Mozelle Ellis Thomas.  He was the retired small business owner of East Memphis Carpets and Coy Thomas Carpet Company.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Fishing and watching college football were two of his favorite pastimes.  He was an avid fan of Ole Miss football.  Service to his community was expressed by volunteering as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Shelby County, TN and Madison County, TN Sheriffs’ Departments. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner for well over 50 years. He was dedicated to and served the Shriners in many capacities that included distinguished service to the Al Chymia Shrine Motor Corps. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Wayne Thomas, Ray Thomas, his twin brother, Roy Thomas; son-in-law: Brett Hill; step-great granddaughter: Lynlee Marie Hatch.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Phillips Thomas of Southaven, MS; four children Linda Hill, Allen Thomas, Brenda McCord, and Sharon (Edwin) Thorpe whom he shared with former spouse, Maxie Lynn Thomas. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Michael Thomas, Jamie Courtney Bunch, Leigh Anne Thomas Humphries, Cory Wiles, Angela Pollan Franklin, Trey McCord, and Nathan Evans; four great grandchildren; Jackson Cornelius, McKinna Wiles, Zoe Wiles, and Nora Wiles and, a sister Mabelline Glen, along with several loved extended family members.

A graveside service and interment of ashes will be at Friendship Cemetery in Kosciusko, MS at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children or the Mississippi State Veterans’ Home in Oxford, MS.

Gay Nell Hawkins Hunt

Gay Nell Hawkins Hunt, 86, died on May 4, 2020 at her home.  

A memorial service will be announced later. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Hunt, of Weir; daughters, Lisa Porter Algood of Weir and Diane Porter Sills and husband, Marc, of Thomastown; grandchildren, Lindsey Herring and husband, Aaron, Briana Doster and husband, David, and Dalton Whitehead and fiancée, Anna; and great-grandchildren, Isaac Herring, Owen Herring, and John Doster. 

She was preceded in death by parents, L.D. and Mary Bell Worrell Hawkins; brother, William Hawkins; and sister, Maureen Keyes.

Noel Jones Covington, Sr.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at Seneasha Cemetery, Goodman. The service was be conducted by Rev. David Cain, Seneasha United Methodist Church.

Born into the Shrock Community in Attala County, to Duncan Noel Covington and Anna Jones Covington, Noel graduated high school, played junior college basketball at Holmes Junior College, and enlisted in the United States Air Force 1951-1955. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict and served as the crew chief of an SA-16A /HU-16 Albatross, search and rescue aircraft.

After his Air Force service, Noel lived in Louisiana while working as a geophysical engineer and log analyst for Dresser Industries/Halliburton and settled in Lafayette to raise his family. He was a member of various golf clubs and Mardi Gras associations. 

Retirement meant a move to Mississippi and building a dream home near his birth place. He retired in 1996 and began his farming his land with corn, watermelons, sugarcane, and he made cane syrup each season. He enjoyed raising German Shepherds and was especially fond of his latest shepherd, “Super.” He was active in Shrock United Methodist Church.

Noel is survived by his three children:  Noel Jones Covington Jr and wife Terri of Lafayette, Louisiana; Cynthia West and husband Eric of Roswell, Georgia; Kathryn La Combe and husband David of New Windsor, New York; four grandchildren: Sean Noel Covington, Gretchen Covington, Christopher West and William Noel LaCombe; five great- grandchildren:  Evan Noel Covington, Ethan Covington, Chloe Prindel, Samuel Prindel and Joel Prindel and one great-great-granddaughter, Savannah Kathryn Covington.   He is also survived by his best friend, Bessye Perkins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Kathryn Virginia Thompson Covington; his parents, Duncan Noel Covington and Anna Jones Covington; his sister Christine Vianna Covington; his brother Duncan Cicero Covington; his brother James Howard Covington; an infant sister.

Bonnie Lee Poe Hines, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at her home. 

A private family graveside service will be held Thursday morning, May 21, at Liberty Chapel Cemetery, Ethel. An informal celebration of her life will follow on the grounds from noon to 2 p.m.

She was an Air Force wife and Registered Nurse retiring locally after serving at both Choctaw County Hospital in Ackerman and Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. She was a member of the Kosciusko First United Methodist Church and a former member of Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sons, Franklin Hines and wife Kristen, of Houston, Texas, and Sidney Hines and wife Jodi, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Marshall, Garrett, Seth, Dane and Kendra; nine great-grandchildren, Lyle, Marlene, Benjamin, Ruth, Charlotte, Abigail, Harriet, Trace, Lillian and very shortly, Henry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Hines, Jr.; parents, Joseph Henry and Matilda Gosa Poe; and her siblings Alvin Henry Poe, Annie Matt Poe, Dorothy Virginia Poe, Lettress Aleda Poe, Oliver Ray ‘Crip’ Poe and Woodrow Wilson ‘Buck’ Poe.
